Visit Gold Beach - British Sector D-Day Landings

During the June 6th 1944 Landings, about 25,000 British soldiers landed at Gold Beach. This Beach is at the centre of all five invasion beaches, in between Omaha and Juno. One of the key successes of the landing was the capture of Bayeux and the establishment of a very important artificial Mulberry Harbor at Arromanches.

Creating this artificial port was crucial to the Allies’ success to create their supply line. Due to the lack of ports, (and those which were established were under heavy defence) it was important for the Allies to create their own.
